Our TT Scale Morris Traveller is 3D printed in resin and finished in cream, representing a popular vehicle from the 1950s and 60s, but that would also not look out of place in a modern day layout!
The Morris Traveller was introduced in 1953 as the estate version of the popular Morris Minor, a car originally designed by Alec Issigonis and launched in 1948. The Traveller retained the classic styling of the Minor but was distinguished by its timber-framed rear bodywork, a feature that gave it a unique, almost cottage-like charm. The wood, usually ash, was not just decorative but an integral part of the car’s structure. With its split rear doors and increased load space, the Traveller was marketed as a practical yet stylish vehicle, ideal for families, small businesses, and even tradespeople. It quickly became an iconic sight on British roads, known for its reliability, ease of maintenance, and characterful design.
Production of the Traveller continued until 1971, by which time over 215,000 had been built. Throughout its life, the model saw various upgrades, including improved engines and refinements to suspension and braking systems. By the late 1960s, however, changing tastes and stricter safety regulations made the Traveller feel increasingly outdated compared to more modern estate cars. Despite this, it remains one of the most beloved British classics, with many well-preserved examples still in use today. Enthusiasts often go to great lengths to maintain or restore the timber frames, ensuring that the Traveller’s distinctive aesthetic endures. Its combination of practicality, nostalgia, and timeless design has cemented its place as a true icon of British motoring history.
